Whaling Harpoon Nearly Hits Protesters

January 16th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in » In the News...

Just ran across this story from MSNBC.com: Whaling Harpoon Nearly Hits Protesters.

You know, I’m all for saving the whales (they’re a pretty awesome part of God’s creation)… but I have to question the wisdom of Greenpeace protesters in this case.

What could drive a person to such lengths of devotion so as to risk losing their life over the fate of an animal? Dying for another human being, I understand (I’d like to believe I wouldn’t even think twice about giving up my life for those I love, especially my wife and kids), and even dying for one’s faith (I’d like to believe that I’d do that if put in that kind of situation)… but animals? Seems like you’d have to have awfully misplaced priorities to risk your life for a whale.

I can’t help but wonder: what drives these folks?

Any thoughts?

A Quick Site Note…

Just a quick site note regarding commenting… This blog will no longer use the “Captcha” plugin (the image with cryptic characters you had to enter), and will be allowing anonymous commenting (although I would ask and encourage everyone to include your name / e-mail). It appears that several comments over the past few days have been rejected due to current controls… I certainly don’t want these to discourage discussion.

To state the obvious… comment spam is not looked upon with favor here. If this becomes a problem, commenting controls will return.

A Good Point Regarding the Mess…

January 14th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in » Baptist Issues

Rick Thompson makes a good point on his blog, the road we travel, regarding the mess surrounding the decision by IMB Trustees to remove fellow Trustee Wade Burleson, giving the only good explanation for the action that I can fathom… that his blogging could interfere with IMB business by creating a lack of trust by other Trustees in him.

It’s a good question to consider… should blogging by Trustees (no matter how generic the details) be allowed? What limits should there be on such activity?

IMB Trustees… Hiding from the Issue?

January 14th, 2006 | 7 Comments | Posted in » Baptist Issues

Interesting news on a couple of blogs regarding the IMB Trustees, their attempt to remove fellow trustee Wade Burleson, the baptismal requirements / tongues issue, and communication related to all of this.

Micah reports that he has been informed by the IMB that they cannot provide contact information for trustees, but rather, trustee chairman Tom Hatley must be contacted to obtain this information. Apparently, this was NOT the case in the recent past.

Also, Scott Bridwell reports that he has had a conversation with an IMB trustee, and that they are being told not to discuss the issue, but to direct all questions to trustee chairman Tom Hatley.

Don’t get me wrong… I don’t want to accuse any of our trustees of doing anything underhanded or wrong… but these reports definitely give one the impression that they are hiding from this issue, which causes one to wonder what’s really going on here.

We REALLY need to be in prayer about this issue!

“Life of Praise”, by Casting Crowns

January 12th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in » Song of the Day

I purchased the Casting Crowns CD a couple weeks back, and find myself thoroughly enjoying it.

The song “Life of Praise” (sample available here) has really moved me recently… particularly the chorus:

For You are awesome, God of the Nations,
Lion of Judah, Rock of the Ages, Alpha, Omega
You’re worthy of all praise
More that these hands I’ll raise
I’ll live a life of praise

So… what songs have helped you to worship our God recently?

Criminals Never Cease to Amaze Me…

I can just imagine the thought process of this not-so-intelligent criminal

“Hey… here’s an idea… I should rob a bank disguised as a smurf!”

You’d think he would have at least used washable blue ink!

Drywalling in the Cat?

This is good… a modern-day version of Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado”… except with a cat.

Here’s the story: Where’s Mary Poppins? Drywall Traps Cat

(I’m sure it wasn’t done on purpose…. cat-haters are a little more efficient than this!)
