One Ugly Mug…

February 13th, 2006 | Posted in » My Life / Family, Site News...

I’m sure by now you noticed that rather goofy looking picture to the left. Yep… that’s me.

Not sure why I was ever really hesitant to post anything personal here… after all… this site is a reflection of who I am, so why not show the world who I am too?

Anyway, that’s my ugly mug… hope it doesn’t scare you away for good. As an enticement to come back, you can look forward to some pictures of my beautiful wife and cute kids later. Surely they’ll counterbalance my pic… :)

john, you can send me your pic and i’ll photoshop it and you’ll look like pierce brosnan with muscles like arnold schwarzenneger. if you’re interested, that is. :-)

Um…. what a generous offer! I think I’ll pass, though.

I can’t have you giving Nancy any ideas about how good I could look if I actually worked out… :)

(BTW, I’m blaming you now if I EVER see any photoshopped fabrications!)

Hehe, so Micah will take the blame. Oh goody. You didn’t know I am into computer graphics and photo repair and restoration? Nevermind, you didn’t hear that here!
Now tell me, are those stars in your eyes – or just the light reflecting in your glasses?
I’m actually disappointed. Where’s those plaid flannel pajamas?
Now for Confession, stage II – what does the S stand for? :D

Now… that might take the fun out of this, wouldn’t it, Judah? Let’s just leave it at this… if you do some digging around on the web involving a bit of research on the baseball team and the organization which sponsors the chaplain program, you’ll figure it out.

    Up for the challenge? :)

    A challenge? Hmmm.
I thought I was offering you the challenge. :D
I’m not a bad researcher so I’m sure I could probably make it pop up, but that’s not quite the same as seeing how far the self revelation here might extend. :)

I’m really interested in this whole subject – the extent to which people disclose information about themselves, or hold back from doing so, and the reasons behind which way they decide. Do you think that posting your photo will affect in any way what you write to your blog compared with before?

One online friend I made some time ago uses her blog as her most intimate confessor, and includes her full name, address, and photos, including those of her family and their farm business. I wonder about her sense of integrity as a person, and certainly the things she describes shows she takes very little proper care and protection of herself – character assassination by internet! I tend right the other way, wanting to safeguard my identity due to some of the information I have provided on a certain ideology. That info is also worded with careful forethought, by the way.

I’d be interested to hear how you find your writing may have changed in any way from how you originally set out – if you do anything differently from your original objectives in starting a blog.

I took it more as a question than a challenge, so figured I’d see how good a researcher you are…. but since you’re not up to the task….

    Just kidding! :)

    My last name is Stickley.

Regarding changes in what I post due to my identity being known… I can’t see it, personally. What I post is intensely personal… but it’s intensely personal in regard to my faith in Christ, and that’s something that we’re neither to hide nor be ashamed of. I can’t say that I’ve ever really felt ashamed of my faith… but I have worried somewhat about how people close to me might respond. It’s been a fear issue more than a shame issue… a hesitancy fueled more by excuses rather than valid reasons.

Anyway, again, I don’t see my posting style changing much. I probably won’t be sharing intimate details of my life or the lives of those close to me (some things simply must be kept confidential), but I won’t hold back if it fulfills this site’s purpose… to (hopefully) make a difference in the lives of others through what I share, and to encourage others to press on towards our Lord in their faith journey.

    So that’s that…

    WARNING! WARNING! Mushiness to follow….

Nancy… You’ve been praying to get God to convict me on this anonymnity thing, haven’t you… I’ve only got two things to say about that…

    1. You’re so awesome!
    2. I love you!

(BTW, I’m proud of YOU for commenting!)

Oh… in case it’s not clear to everyone… Nancy is my wife. How about a warm welcome for her and some encouragement to come back and comment some more (or even… to blog…)?

    G’day Nancy! :D

Now a shared husband-wife blog would be a great idea. Sometimes it can be hard to write an entry, either for lack of time or lack of inspiration, but if it was a shared venture then I am sure it would help each other out. I think it would be really interesting having two people contributing, maybe one bouncing off the other, or just individual contributions.

Nancy, you could always start with the quiz a few entries back. Also, someone needs to explain how John got to be called “Nu”. It seems he doesn’t remember. :)
