News Stories on Albuquerque Events
May 25th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in » Baptist Issues
The IMB website now contains a news story on the events occurring at the IMB Trustee Meeting in Albuquerque. This will probably appear on the Baptist Press site soon. As you would expect, many of the details we’ve received from Wade, Wes, and Cliff are not given.
The Associated Baptist Press has also covered the meeting. Their story is not as extensive in its coverage of the meeting’s events, but does contain additional details you will not find in the IMB story. The ABP story can be found here.
Another bombshell… surprise surprise.

If there is even an ounce of truth to what Wade Burleson has posted on his blog today regarding his treatment by Tom Hatley at the Albuquerque IMB Trustee meeting, Baptists everywhere have reason to be incensed with righteous anger. This is UNACCEPTABLE behavior for a Christian, but even more so for a Christian in a position of leadership.
Tom… I hope you read this. I’m VERY disappointed in you as a spiritual leader in our particular denomination. Your assassination of Wade’s character is reprehensible. In a moment where you were given the opportunity to bring peace, you instead chose to drive a wedge between yourself and a brother in Christ. Not only that, but your actions today created additional division throughout the SBC regarding this issue at a time when peacemaking is most desperately needed! I’m so disappointed and disheartened!
Sadly, this should not come as unexpected, given the treatment that Wade has been given so far in this dispute. I’m still disappointed and angry, but most of all, I find myself disheartened at the message we seem intent on giving a lost world… that we can’t even love one another.
Satan must be dancing like a crazy man.
UPDATE…
Cliff Cummings, a pastor from Oklahoma who was at the meeting, attests to everything Wade has posted in his blog. Here’s some details. Expect some more from Cliff later on once he makes it back home from the meeting.
Also, Wes Kenney, who also attended the meeting, has posted his corraborating observations here.
Accounts from Albuquerque

Wes Kenney has posted some of the highlights from yesterday’s IMB Trustees meeting in Albuquerque on his blog. Check out the latest entries here and here.
Cliff Cummings has also posted about the meeting .
Both of these guys’ sites are worth checking out to get some first-hand accounts of the day’s events.
(Of course, you won’t want to miss Wade’s site either. If you’ve been following this for long, you’ll no doubt have that URL memorized or bookmarked, but here’s the link for those of you who don’t have it handy.)
Dr. John Floyd Elected Chairman of IMB Trustees

Today’s news from Albuquerque… Dr. John Floyd has been elected as Chairman of the IMB Board of Trustees.
Marty Duren raises some interesting (and concerning) issues.
Art Rogers has also posted some thoughts.
There will be some VERY interesting fallout from this in the days to come. I, for one, am praying that John is not the bull in the china closet that Marty and Art’s concerns seem to express. If he IS as divisive in his theology and goals as one would be led to believe, this spells very bad news for the hope of a more open and cooperative IMB, and the escalation of this situation rather than its resolution.
I know God’s will is always accomplished (and shall be done in this), but I sure wish I could see the big picture He’s painting!
Under the Weather…

Man, I often question God’s timing sometimes. This morning about 11:00, I came down with the flu. Yes… full-blown stuff, can’t keep anything down… ug! It’s nasty, and I feel HORRIBLE.
Anyway, I know God’s allowing this for a reason, but it definitely interferes with some of my plans, specifically… my first chapel service with Baseball Chapel!
So… pray for me, first of all, that I might heal quickly and still be able to preach tomorrow. Also, pray that we’ll be able to find someone on short notice to preach should I be unable!
I’m sure you know my preference which of these prayers God would grant, but lift both up anyway, would you?
Thanks and God bless!
So, we have a choice!

News flash, courtesy of Marty Duren over at SBC Outpost… we will have a choice to make for president of the SBC this year. South Carolina pastor Frank Page will allow his name to be placed into nomination for SBC President.
Be in prayer over your choice. I’m certain that both candidates are great, but we really need God’s direction in this matter.
Ministry Updates

A couple updates to some ministries I’m involved in…
Small group Bible study… we held our first small group study last night in our home, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with how things went! Mayberry 101 looks to be a hit so far! Keep us in prayer in the coming weeks and months, as we’re the guinea pig for Missouri Valley’s small group ministry. This has such great potential, but only if we follow God’s leading each step of the way.
Baseball Chapel… The Blacksnakes have their home opener tonight, returning from a rough seven game road trip to start the season. Pray for the players, coaches, staff, and others whom Nancy and I will come in contact with as we minister to the team. Sunday will be our first “official” day of ministry, so keep us in your prayers as well (especially me, as I preach my first “real” sermon!).
Your prayers are appreciated!
