Fanning the Flames, yet Fearing the Fire?
June 8th, 2006 | Posted in » Baptist Issues
This is probably more of a rant than anything (although I AM truly curious), but what is it about these SBC issues that draws so many anonymous posters who seem to fan the flames, fueling the fire?
What is the motivation for posting anonymously? Do those of you who do so fear getting burnt by the fire you fan? Do you have something to lose by revealing your true identity? Is anonymity simply “safe”? Is it a character flaw?
Would anyone who regularly posts anonymously care to enlighten me?
(Note, having once posted anonymously, I understand the fear of taking that leap. Now, it doesn’t seem that big of a deal. I truly am curious to hear from some of you as to what your reasons are.)

Well, you may already know my reason but I will say it here anyway.
I post anonymously for personal security reasons, that of myself and my family. My website and online Journal has as an objective to debunk the myth that Islam is “a religion of peace and tolerance” and educate others concerning this aggressive and dangerous totalitarian ideology. Islamic clerics and apologists would like to have folks lulled into a sense of complacency while Islam stealthily marches onwards to achieve it’s goal of universal submission to Allah, by the sword if necessary. Muslims do not like these truths being known. Using a pseudonym and avoiding mention of any other identying factors is not totally foolsafe, but it would hardly be wise in these times not to take some measures of this nature.

Judah,
I completely understand your reasons. My post was really more one of bewilderment about how some people can go and write post after post, trashing other Christians, yet not having the gall to do so by the light of day. Anonymity is nice when you have legitimate reasons, but when used as a shield to avoid criticism or consequences for sinful behavior… well, let’s just say that kind of behavior doesn’t seems to indicate a whole lot of character.
Anyway, that’s why I asked. I’m trying to avoid a heart judgment of people that post anonymously (in that manner), and wanted to give them an opportunity to post their reasons.
Again, I’m certainly understanding of your situation.
