When I Grow Up…

After our interview with the folks from Westboro Baptist Church, Kevin Bussey, Alan Cross, and I went out to dinner to experience North Carolina BBQ at its finest. I must say, it’s VERY different from KC style… it definitely has to grow on you. Kevin gave it four and a half pigs… my rating would have been much lower. That, of course, is simply because Kansas City has the best BBQ anywhere in the nation.
Anyway, that’s not the point. What is interesting, and what triggered the title of this post, was a senior adult named Paul Strickland that I met as we were leaving the restaurant. I ended up staying to talk with him for twenty minutes. He is an awesome man of God… and honestly? I want to be just like him when I’m his age.
At 79 years old, Paul is still attending SBC conventions, and still sharing the hope of Jesus Christ with everyone he meets. He shared with me that, just on the trip to Greensboro, that he had the privilege to lead ten people to Christ!
I wish I could adequately describe this man and his life, but the news articles in the packet he hands out when witnessing say it all. I don’t currently have a way to scan these and upload them, but will do so when I get back home. Please come back and check them out, and allow yourself to be encouraged in your own witnessing efforts. This man truly is an inspiration to us all.
UPDATE…
I’ve scanned the articles about Paul that he provided in the information packet he hands out. Check them out here.

Where did you eat the barbecue at? If you’re meeting at the G’boro Colisseum I’ll wager that you tried Stamey’s. North Carolina barbecue is a really varied thing: there’s no one dominant style. I just moved to nearby Reidsville from Greensboro and here we have Short Sugar’s, which is as different a barbecue (especially the sauce) as you’re apt to find. Then you got Lexington style, eastern style, etc. We’re a pretty wild and wacky bunch when it comes to barbecue
If you ever visit the Atlanta area, check out Williamson Bros. Barbecue in Marietta… the best traditional barbecue I’ve ever tasted!

We did eat at Stamey’s. I loved it. I use to live in Canton, GA and Williamson Bros is good!
