Baptist Press has issued another article on the hoopla surrounding Southwestern’s decision to deny online access to Rev. McKissic’s sermon, today focusing on the letter the Rev. McKissic sent to Dr. Patterson as well as statements from our president, Dr. Page.

A Question that I’ve Always Wondered About…
August 31st, 2006 | 20 Comments | Posted in » Baptist Issues
In light of the events of the past couple days, I have a question that I’ve always wondered about that seems rather appropriate to ask now. So… let’s dive in.
There are obviously divergent opinions in regard to tongues / private prayer language, with Biblical arguments going both ways. The question I have is this: if indeed, as many profess, tongues / private prayer language is NOT Biblically valid, how do we explain away the experiences of so many people worldwide who have experienced these things, many without ever seeking such? Are they making this stuff up? Are they delusional? Are they under the influence of something ungodly?
This really bothers me… and I’m not sure I’ve ever received a good answer. To be completely open and honest, it’s a pretty big barrier for me ever believing that tongues / private prayer language are not valid spiritual gifts.
So… maybe someone out there can shed some light on the matter. Anyone?

McKissic’s Sermon Transcript

Looks like Wade has the scoop… the transcript of Rev. McKissic’s sermon from yesterday’s chapel service at Southwestern.
Check it out here, and decide for yourself whether what he said was inappropriate for a chapel service.
UPDATE…
I finally got through reading this sermon (it didn’t take long, but my family is a much higher priority than Blog Town). All I can say is… WOW. What a message. Really touched my heart, opened my eyes, and reminded me of our constant need for the Holy Spirit.
As for the controversy surrounding this? I can see absolutely NO REASON to withhold this sermon from the public. In fact, doing so may, at least in my opinion, damage churches in and of itself, as we are in dire need of a good reminder of our need for the Spirit. The controversy surrounding this is not only a good thing… it’s a God thing… drawing people’s interest to it, perhaps that He might drive us to seek Him… to ask Him to fill us anew with the Spirit, that we might have the fullness of God’s power working in our lives to make a difference in this world.
I pray (no, not in tongues) simply that God might open all of our eyes once again to our need for continual filling of the Spirit… that we might all be willing to simply ask God not only to fill our cups with the blessing of His Spirit… but to ensure that we are overflowing with the Spirit that the world may know Him.
Improper Blog Etiquette?

Okay, I must confess… I’m a bit confused by the behavior I’m about to point out. And maybe my doing will seem just as wrong as the behavior itself.
So… first, the question… is it proper blog etiquette to take an exchange in comments from one blog and post those on your own to make a point?
Here’s a couple examples, both stemming from comments on blog posts today.
Here’s the first, a post by Les Puryear stemming from a conversation with Wade Burleson on Art Roger’s blog today.
Here’s the second, a post by Robin Foster, stemming from conversations with both Kevin Bussey and Wade Burleson on Wade Burleson’s blog today.
Okay, my opinion? This seems pretty poor blogging etiquette. If a conversation occurs in a string of comments, it doesn’t seem particularly right to me to take some of that and post it on your own blog, then comment about the exchange… especially if the comment exchange is not yet finished!
What do you think?
