From Tragedy to Triumph…

October 16th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in » God at Work

In case you haven’t noticed, I recently added a new post category in the left sidebar entitled “God at Work”. Posts in this category contain accounts of God working in the lives of His children.

My friend Kevin Bussey has posted such a story today, recounting his experience with God turning tragedy into triumph. Don’t miss his powerful testimony showing how God fulfilled the promise of Romans 8:28 in the midst of horrific circumstances!

What Is It?

Okay, here’s a fun one for the weekend. Take a look at the picture below, and identify what I’m standing by.

If I’ve shown you this before or told you about it, please don’t ruin the fun for everyone else.

Happy guessing!

UPDATE:

Here’s the long-awaited answer… I was standing by the hub (where the blades attach) of a Suzlon S-88 wind turbine. Check out the following picture to see what it looks like complete. The caption points to the hub.

Maybe it’s just that I’m a complete geek, but I think this kind of stuff is absolutely amazing.

OUCH!!!

Check out this editorial regarding blogging in the North Carolina Biblical Recorder.

Here’s the portion that will probably hit you hardest… statements by Southeastern Seminary president Danny Akin:

Blogs are not universally popular, however. During a plenary session of the trustees at Southeastern Seminary, seminary president Daniel Akin was asked by a trustee to share his opinion about blogging. Akin, who posts many of his writings online, though not in the form of an interactive blog, said blogs are both a blessing and a curse, “a 21st century outlet for extreme narcissism.”

Blogs require no accountability, Akin said, allowing people “to make scurrilous, false, untrue accusations against men that I believe are men of God.”

Akin said he didn’t know anyone who had been attacked more than former SEBTS president Paige Patterson. “Some people have personal agendas,” he said, and do things that “are shaming the body of Christ.”

“Even if they have legitimate concerns,” Akin said, verbally underscroring the “if,” they are not expressing them “in ways that are consistent with the Bible.”

“I don’t really give a rip what most bloggers think,” he said. “Most of them are little men with little ideas and little agendas.”

One word… OUCH!!!

There’s Something about Wiley…

Here’s a quick post you need to read… “Our 2nd Vice President”.

We need more people serving God with such passion as Wiley Drake!

(BTW, here’s an interview of Wiley that Micah Fries and I recorded at the Southern Baptist Convention in Greensboro.)

God’s Still Working…

October 6th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in » God at Work

This morning, I just wanted to bring your attention to some things shared on Bryan Riley’s blog, showing how God’s still working in this world. I can’t help but be inspired by the faithfulness of people like Bryan who give so much to serve God… and how God rewards faithfulness by showing up in amazing ways.

Check these posts out:

Bryan shares about his son’s teacher’s testimony.

Bryan shares about counting our blessings, and how God had taken care of them upon arriving back in Hawaii at the University of the Nations.

Bryan shares about some of the amazing things God had done since they’ve taken steps to become missionaries.

Something You Don’t See Everyday…

October 4th, 2006 | 3 Comments | Posted in » My Life / Family

Okay… I’m back. The last three days have been spent at the Tan-Tar-A resort on Lake of the Ozarks here in Missouri, where I’ve been attending an annual meeting for an organization associated with my employer. I won’t bore you with details, but I was able to take my family, and it was a nice getaway.

So how does this relate to the post title? Well, check out the little critter we found in our room Sunday evening… something I didn’t even know could be found in Missouri, let alone in a hotel room (the one we happened to be staying in, no less)!

That, my friends, is a striped scorpion, and I found one identical to it crawling up the wall in our room near my precious daughter Sunday evening. I managed to compose myself long enough to catch it in a coffee cup and send it to a swirling watery grave (down the toilet, in case you’re not following), but needless to say, I had a pretty good case of the heebie-jeebies afterwards.

Definitely something you don’t see everyday… and definitely something I don’t want to!
