Guess My Gift!
December 14th, 2006 | 9 Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun...
I don’t know how this works, but it’s VERY cool.
It’s called “Guess My Gift”.
Be sure to turn your sound on so you can hear the questions!
Audio from Roundtable
December 12th, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in » Baptist Issues
If you’re interested in hearing audio from the Roundtable held at Cornerstone Baptist Church last Tuesday, you can now find that online at their website.
Specific audio file links follow:
- Wade Burleson’s introductory statement
- Wade Burleson’s testimony introduction
- Rev. McKissic’s devotional message
- Audio regarding the Lifeway study request
- Audio regarding the resolution proposal
- Audio from the closing session
I’m disappointed that video is not available, but given the problems with the live broadcast, perhaps that should not have been entirely unexpected. As one who has been involved some with recording of events, it’s just a fact of life that sometimes things don’t work as well as intended. I’m most appreciative of the folks at Cornerstone that made every effort to make all of this available online, and am very glad that we have audio available.
Favorite Christmas Song / Album?
December 8th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun..., My Life / Family, Song of the Day
Here’s a lighter topic for a change… what Christmas song (or album) are you enjoying most this year?
Me? It’s no contest this year… Third Day, Christmas Offerings picks up the win in a laugher.
My favorite song from that album? It’s gotta be, “Jesus, Light of the World”. Check out these lyrics, then the sample you can find on their website, and tell me this isn’t one of the best original Christmas songs out there…
The most beautiful night of the year,
All the stars light up the sky.
And the city is sparkling with silver and gold
from a million points of light.
A reflection of something that’s deeper within,
just a flicker of something more.Jesus, light of the world,
Shine through the darkness bright as the day.
Jesus, light of the world,
Shine in our hearts, show us the way, tonight!Who is this child in the manger?
Kings bow down, and angels sing.
The Lord of the universe has come here to save us,
A precious offering.
All the heavens above and the earth below,
Are filled with the light of your love.Jesus, light of the world,
Shine through the darkness bright as the day.
Jesus, light of the world,
Shine in our hearts, show us the way, tonight!
I’m telling you, I haven’t heard a song this powerful in a long time. Great stuff… check it out. You won’t be disappointed!
Impressions of the Roundtable…
December 5th, 2006 | 5 Comments | Posted in » Baptist Issues
Okay, it appears that the Baptist blog world is starting to publish a few thoughts on today’s roundtable discussion in Arlington. I’ll try to update this list as others post their impressions. Hopefully I will publish some of my own at a later date (once the archived video broadcast is available).
- Wes Kenney posts his first impressions
- Alan Cross shares a brief roundtable update
- Alan shares some more thoughts about a whirlwind day. (Side note: pray for Alan’s son, Caelan!)
- Paul Littleton shares some things what did and didn’t surprise him (with some good humor mixed in).
- Micah Fries has posted his Arlington wrap-up.
- Robin Foster shares his point of view regarding the commendable aspects of the roundtable. (Part 2, regarding concerns, is yet to come.)
- Bart Barber offers his analysis of the roundtable resolution.
Art Rogers has posted the text of documents drafted at the roundtable:
- Here’s the letter to the president of Lifeway, Dr. Thom Rainer
- Here’s the letters to the chairmen of the IMB, NAMB, and SWBTS trustees.
- This is the resolution on partnership and free religious expression.
Links to Baptist media coverage:
- Associated Baptist Press writes that “Leaders at Texas conference join McKissic’s call for more freedom”. (Hannah Elliott)
- Check out the Southern Baptist Texan coverage, entitled Arlington roundtable seeks SBC policies not exceeding BF&M”. (Tammi Reed Ledbetter)
- Baptist Press News writes, “Openness to private prayer language echoes at meeting”. (Tammi Reed Ledbetter)
- Baptist Press News also wrote an article about the organizers of the roundtable and their purposes for the meeting, entitled “Organizers cite common ground on prayer language issue”. (Tammi Reed Ledbetter)
- The Florida Baptist Witness writes that “Sandy Creek-Charlestonian Convergence discusses ‘private prayer language’” (Tammi Reed Ledbetter, with James Smith contributing)
Links to secular media coverage:
- The Dallas Morning News writes that “Pastors back private prayer language” (note: be sure to read Alan Cross’s blog to get the full story on his quote in this article)
- The Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes, “Change in prayer policy sought”. (Nathaniel Jones)
- The Dallas Morning News writes about “The lowdown on a Baptist spat”. (Sam Hodges)
These links really don’t specifically discuss the roundtable, but do address topics surrounding it:
- Check out what Ben Cole shares about how it all went down.
- Wade Burleson shares his thoughts about Dwight McKissic, and why he thanks God for him.
- Bob Cleveland writes, “I Got Yer ‘Unity’ Right Here, Too, Pal”. (I always appreciate Bob’s thoughts!)
- Kevin Stilley presents a very interesting case for why the current form of this movement will fail. Definitely worth thinking about.

On Alcohol… from the Florida Baptist Convention
December 1st, 2006 | 4 Comments | Posted in » Baptist Issues, Quote of the Day
Interesting. This Baptist Press article addresses statements made at the Florida Baptist Convention regarding alcohol.
Here’s a few of the “highlights”:
We are not going to have people on our boards of trustees that do not believe in total abstinence.
– John Sullivan (Executive Director-Treasurer of Florida Baptist Convention)
God saved me from that and when we make decisions, I want it to be done in sobriety. We may not always be right, but we’ll always be sober.
– John Sullivan (Executive Director-Treasurer of Florida Baptist Convention)
I don’t drink, don’t want to, don’t need to. That’s not my point. But I can’t make that text say that the man can’t take a drink.
– Voddie Baucham (Houston evangelist)
Don’t you let it touch your lips. How ironic is that? Can I tell you why that’s the position we take? Because we don’t have a problem with alcoholic pastors in the Southern Baptist Convention.
– Voddie Baucham (Houston evangelist)
It’s probably safe to say that Baptists will never agree on alcohol consumption… (no, I’m not talking about what kind!).
