Friday Photos — Family Picture

September 14th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in » My Life / Family, Pictures

Nancy and I decided we needed a family picture about a month back, when we just happened to all be color coordinated one Sunday morning (not uncommon for the kids, but totally unplanned for Nancy and me). Funny how things just work out sometimes… :)

Anyway, here’s the best of the bunch we took using the camera’s self-timer.

A Challenge from Psalm 73…

September 13th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in » Christian Living, Devotions / Bible Studies

I ran across this passage from Psalm 73 earlier this week, and found it pretty challenging.

Psalm 73:25-26
25Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

26My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
     and my portion forever.

How many of us could say, as the psalmist, that earth has nothing we desire except God? How many of us can honestly declare that our love and desire for God and His ways exceed all else? That’s not to say that the things of earth are without worth, of course, but seriously… how many of us live life focused on God’s glory as our most pressing concern?

Further, how many of us can say that we can trust and rely wholly on God to provide strength when we are weak? How does one do that, anyway?

Maybe I’m a subpar Christian, but I fall far short in these matters. I’m most thankful that it’s not about what I can do for or give to God… but about His grace and love and mercy in loving me and adopting me as His own.

It Could be a Long Season…

September 9th, 2007 | 9 Comments | Posted in » In the News..., KC Chiefs

It’s no secret I’m a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan.

As I sit here watching the season opener versus the Houston Texans (can you say 6-10 last year?), I can only think of one word: UGLY.

What’s worse? With Eddie Kennison hurt on the season’s first play (apparently a hamstring injury), and an extremely inexperienced receiving corps behind him, we may be in trouble. While I thought we looked pretty decent on paper, the reality of this season is looking pretty bleak right now… questionable receivers, no return game (BTW, Dante Hall had an 84 yd kick return for the Rams!), a complete lack of offensive creativity, critical defesive breakdowns… it may be hard to watch.

At least Denver is losing (for now).

Pray for Tracy Fries

September 8th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in » Prayer Requests

Micah Fries called me tonight, and asked that I keep his wife, Tracy, in my prayers. As most of you that read my blog know him as well, I’d like to ask all of you to pray for Tracy too.

Tracy was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday, and her condition has worsened to the point that they expect her to be admitted to the hospital for care this evening. This is obviously difficult, not just for Tracy, but the entire family, so I’d also ask that you pray for Micah and their girls as well.

Thanks, and God bless!

Your Love, Oh Lord…

September 6th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in » Devotions / Bible Studies

I’ve been doing a bit of reading in Psalms today, and particularly enjoyed this portion of Psalm 36. Perhaps its simply because I love the Third Day song derived from verses 5 and 6, or perhaps it’s simply that I needed to meditate a bit on the love of God. Whatever the case… it speaks powerfully.

Psalm 36:5-10
5Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
     your faithfulness to the skies.

6Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.

7How priceless is your unfailing love!
Both high and low among men
find refuge in the shadow of your wings.

8They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.

9For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

10Continue your love to those who know you,
your righteousness to the upright in heart.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus…

September 5th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in » Song of the Day

A simple hymn… a powerful message.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
and life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.
