So We’ve Got a New President…

November 4th, 2008 | Posted in » In the News...

… who’s anything but conservative… with a Congress to match.

May God help us.

It’s a good thing God is sovereign over all, and that my trust is in Him rather than our governing authorities, ’cause I sure don’t see how this can be anything but bad news.

John, did you trust less in God when Bush was in office? Do you think that God shouldn’t have helped us just as much when Bush was in office? You know, it frustrates me when we act like our governmental authority isn’t put in place by God (Romans 13). It bothers me when we assume that because a guy isn’t the previous guy, it’s the end of the world.

Relax. Pray for your leaders. And continually, under EVERY ADMINISTRATION, ask God to help America follow Christ more. Because there is nothing God-honoring about the Bush administration, and there will be nothing particularly God-honoring about the Obama administration.

    Joe,

If you think I believe God’s trustworthiness varies dependent upon the current president, or that I believe God’s involvement in any presidency varies over another, or if I believe by any stroke of the imagination that an Obama presidency is the end of the world, well… you’re sorely mistaken in your reading of my mind.

All I said is that from my point of view… in my own strength… I can’t see how an Obama presidency will be good for our nation.

Then again, I can’t see how Christians such as you and I can come to completely different conclusions in regard to whom we’ve supported in this election. I’m sure you feel pretty safe you made a God-honoring choice by voting for Obama… and I feel pretty safe that I made a God-honoring choice by voting for McCain. How we both have a peace in our hearts about that is beyond me… yet in no way, shape, or form do I believe that either of us trusts in God more or less than the other. God is capable of reconciling seemingly non-reconcilable things.

Anyway… as I said… I’m glad God is sovereign, because I KNOW I can trust in that fact.

    End of rant.

The last sentence (before “end of rant”) was what I was trying to get you to stick with. Maybe I’ll end up posting why I supported Obama… but I haven’t made that decision yet. I didn’t try to read your mind, though. I asked you some questions that I felt were pertinent to your statement… your answers to those questions determine what I think about your statements. That’s why I asked.

By the way, I think if I did explain why I voted Obama to you, you’d probably at least see a well-thought out decision… even if you still disagreed with my conclusion.

    Sorry about the rant, Joe.

I just thought that sentence regarding God’s sovereignty, and my trust in that, came across clearly in the original post. When I read your “it frustrates me” and “it bothers me” statements, I assumed those statements were being applied as judgments to me. If you knew me really well, you’d know that NOTHING gets me more worked up than when people try to tell me what I think… just ask my wife!

Anyway, there’s no need for you to explain to me your reasons for supporting Obama. Odds are we won’t see eye to eye on that matter, period, and we’ll just end up sparring over it. That’s totally unproductive, if you ask me.
