More Thoughtful Gifts…

Wow, President Obama is NOT a very good gift giver. First, he gave the British Prime Minister a DVD set (that won’t work in British DVD players!)… now he’s given the Queen an iPod!
Are you kidding me?
(This has GOT to be an April Fool’s joke… right?)

Way to jump on the hype, John. He gave her an iPod filled with media from the Queen’s visit to Richmond, which may be a little bit sentimental to her. Who knows, but it’s a nice gesture. Then he also gave her a rare autographed Richard Rodgers songbook (not that I know who Rodgers is, except that he’s apparently some composer).
In return, the Queen offered an autographed photo of herself and her husband.
You’re better than jumping on the hype, man.

Dude, relax.
This story broke on April Fool’s Day, and on the surface, appeared to be a April Fool’s joke. I assumed everyone had been had by a witty columnist.

I still don’t get the iPod gift. I thought gifts given on state visits were supposed to be symbols of one’s country.
Now, I can see that the iPod is one of America’s most successful inventions of recent years… but are they even made in the US?
It would be very amusing to give Her Majesty something that has ‘made in Japan’ stamped on the back!
