Mmmm… Tacos…

August 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun..., My Life

Here’s a brief, somewhat humorous glimpse at real life for ya. Hopefully Nancy doesn’t want to shoot me for posting this!

Actual text message from my wife earlier today:

Will you eat a regular taco shell or do you need to buy some soft ones?

My first thought?

Oooh! Tacos for dinner! Rock on!

(Yes, I’m a typical guy, thinking with my stomach first.)

Second thought?

Man, my wife is awesome… she wants to make sure dinner is just the way I like it…

(Give me credit, I recognized she was being thoughtful!)

Third thought?

Hey, wait a second… did she just tell me to go grocery shopping?

Let me tell you, my wife is one smart woman… she got me to agree to run an errand for her, and be thankful to do it.

The Trick to Pranking…

Monday Laughs…

June 23rd, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun...

It’s Monday, and we all could use a good laugh. Enjoy this bit of humor…

This morning, on my way to work, I wasn’t paying as much attention as I should have been… and I rear-ended another vehicle. I groaned, dug around in the dash for my insurance, and stepped out of the car to examine the damage.

As I stood there standing along the road, watching steam roll from my punctured radiator, the other driver got out of his car.

You know how the most stressful of real-life situations sometimes simply become funny? Like when you can’t help but laugh at a funeral or the like?

Of course you do.

Well, the other driver got out of his car, and I couldn’t believe it… he was a DWARF, only about 3 feet tall! The laughs started coming (it was the last thing in the world I expected), but I did my best to suppress them in spite of my mind’s imaginative wanderings (how did he reach the pedals, how could he see over the dash, etc.).

I tried… I really did. Dwarfism simply isn’t something to laugh about.

But after he stormed over to me, looked up at me, pointed a finger in my face, and loudly proclaimed, “I am NOT happy!”… I totally lost it.

The other driver exploded. “What. What’s so funny, you moron?”

Fighting back the tears, and struggling to get my laughter under control, I looked down at him and said, “If you’re not Happy, then which one are you?”

And THAT’S when the fight started.

UPDATE: This would have made a GREAT April Fool’s joke!

This story has been taken by several people to be real (including one of my closest friends), so I guess I need to add a disclaimer. It’s NOT REAL… just a humorous first-person fictional writing based on a joke I saw yesterday. Any similarity to events, real or imagined, is purely coincidental.

Word Clouds…

Check this site out: wordle.net. It allows you to create word clouds quickly and easily… a pretty neat exercise with Scripture passages. Check out the following, generated from one of my favorites, Philippians 3:12-14…

While I was out and about for work yesterday, I drove by this:

My thoughts? Either we’ve got someone in northwest Missouri trying to grow cars, or they occasionally fall from the sky around here. :)

Anyone got a better explanation?

Blog Madness at SBC Voices…

March 23rd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun..., My Life

I can’t resist sharing this here. It’s “Blog Madness” time at SBC Voices… time to find out who the real voices of influence are in the Southern Baptist Convention.

Somehow, Tony Kummer (the man behind SBC Voices) decided I was worthy, so I’m in… I made the dance as a #16 seed in the West region. Woohoo for the underdog!

I’d tell all of you to go and vote for me, but that would defeat Tony’s current opinion of my as a very humble individual. ;)

So how ’bout this? Go and vote for your favorite SBC blogger who rarely focuses on anything SBC-related anymore. :)

Have fun!

Bedtime Prayers…

February 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun..., My Life

Like many Christian parents, Nancy and I make it a point to pray with our kids every night before bed. Aside from the fact that we simply SHOULD pray, it’s a great way to share with our kids how much we love them and to share with them our desire for them to know, love, and follow Jesus.

When considering prayers, one possibility is the classic almost everyone knows:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

I must admit, we never pray this one with them.

Wonder why?

Well, think about the words a bit, then check out the following from Tim Edwards…

(Thanks to Tom Brager for sharing! Tim Hawkins is hilarious!)

Corporate Worship?

February 3rd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun...

What would it be like if corporate America got hold of Christian worship tunes and made them their own?

Something like this?

(Thanks to Tom Brager for sharing this gem!)

I Triple Dog Dare You!

A scene from the movie “A Christmas Story” became reality yesterday morning when not only one, but two Indiana fourth-graders got their tongues stuck to a flagpole.

It’s not clear if the local fire department was called to rescue the boys. Neither has word been forthcoming on whether whatever friends that put the two up to it have confessed to doing so. We do know, however, that those who did it know their blame, and we’re sure that the guilt they feel is far worse than any punishment that they might receive.

If God Had a Refrigerator…

Nancy picked up a new t-shirt for Jenna last weekend. Just thought I’d share a photo of her modeling it for us.

In case you can’t quite make out what it says, the text is, “If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it!”

Very cute, a bit cheesy, yet most profound.
