Cache Bash!
September 28th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in » Geocaching, My Life / Family, Pictures
Yesterday, we attended our first geocaching event… the “Jesse James Cache Bash”!
Talk about a great time… loads of good food, fun caching games, some neat people, and yes… a TON of prizes.
While we didn’t do a great job documenting the event with photos (others have, so check that out here), we did get a few new ones of our kids.

Sure made for a fun day! We’re looking forward to next year’s event already!

Saturday was spent on a geocaching outing to Maryville, where we picked up three caches in the area we hadn’t had a chance to get to yet. We were pleased to visit a new cache placed late last week… and be first to find!
Anyway, here’s a few photos. The first three are from “Abe’s Parkside Find”; the latter from “MAKE TRACKS”.

Weekend Wrap…

Generally, Memorial Day Weekend is seen as the kick-off to summer. We managed to do so a bit, doing a bit of geocaching Saturday and today… but we also managed to see all three kids and Nancy come down with illness (thankfully, all of them are doing better today, with the kids pretty much over it completely). Geocaching was but a momentary diversion to get out of the house… we simply had to get some fresh air!
Anyway, photos from the fun part of our weekend are below.
Here’s Jeffrey all set to find our first cache Saturday…

Off to find the cache…

The kids, at a scenic spot…

Jeffrey and Jenna, looking for the first cache this afternoon…

As you can see, there was a bit of a mixed reaction on this one (there was a nice surprise waiting with the cache!)…

More geocaching fun…

We decided to stop and do a bit of geocaching on the way back from Springfield today. If you’re in the area and have some time, you ought to check out Poague Wildlife Area just west of Clinton… it’s a very neat little spot. It was especially peaceful this afternoon, being a weekday!
Anyway, here’s a few pictures from today…

We’ve really grown to enjoy geocaching, and have now gone three consecutive weekends. Yesterday, we checked out a couple caches near Worth County Lake.
Here’s a few photos from the trip…

Geocaching!
April 20th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in » Geocaching, My Life / Family, Pictures
Yesterday, we spent the afternoon trying out something new as a family… geocaching! It’s an absolute blast, highly recommended for families! There’s just something special about tromping through the woods with the family toward an unknown prize. The kids are excited to find each cache, and love the unknown element of what will be hidden in each cache. Nancy and I just enjoyed being outdoors doing something new with the kids.
If you’ve never heard of geocaching, the basic concept is this: various people have hidden “caches” in locations all throughout the nation. GPS coordinates for each cache are saved and published on the geocaching.com website, and are available for everyone who registers to obtain them. To participate, you simply input the coordinates of a cache into your GPS and go find it! Once you do, there will be a log to sign in the cache (generally some sort of waterproof container), as well as items you can take (provided you replace what you take with something new). It’s kind of like a worldwide scavenger hunt.
Whatever the case, it’s a lot of fun. It gets you outside where you can truly enjoy God’s creation, and it takes you to a lot of cool places you’d never see otherwise. We’ll definitely be going again!
Anyway, here’s pictures from our outing yesterday.
