Why Washington is in Bad Shape…
April 2nd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in » In the News...
Wow. If you need yet another example of why our nation is in trouble (or even if you don’t), watch this.
Amazingly enough, this is real footage… not an April Fool’s joke, not creative editing… Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia (a Democrat) apparently thinks islands float, and is concerned that Guam might actually “tip over and, uh, capsize” if a proposed action to move troops and their families there proceeds.

As seen on the Drudge Report this morning…

I’ve only got one question… which one is Batman and which one is Robin?

Black Friday…

An interesting factual tidbit about Black Friday… Black Friday is the busiest day of the year for plumbers.
Oddly appropriate, huh?
Make the Most of It…

“Well, let’s make the most of it.”
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase. My dad and some of his retired friends are doing just that… making the most of their retirement. They’ve been in the news recently in Maryville, Missouri, for their efforts to build a duplex together on property my dad owns. Hardly your typical contractors, these guys are doing anything but living your typical “retired” life!
It’s definitely been good for them, certainly for my dad, at least. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen him enjoying himself so much.

Way to go, Dad!
One of the Best Touchdowns Ever!
September 18th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in » In the News...
You’ve got to see this YouTube clip. This has got to be one of the best touchdown runs ever in high school football!
Okay, so you need some backstory. The player scoring is Matt Ziesel, a young man from Benton High School here in St. Joseph. He’s a freshman with Down Syndrome that loves football, whom the coaches and staff graciously allowed to be part of the team. The opposing team is from Maryville High School (I’m a 1994 graduate).
The situation? Fourth quarter… 10 seconds to go… Maryville ahead by a large margin. Matt’s on the sideline… “Coach McCamy, I am ready! I am ready Coach!”
Benton calls a timeout. Coaches from Benton run across the field to talk to Maryville coaches, informing them of the situation… the “Matt play” is coming. Players line up… the ball is snapped… and off Matt goes on a 60 yard touchdown romp.
Absolutely heartwarming.
I’m telling you, this is what high school sports is all about. Yeah, Benton lost by a wide margin. But every player on the field walked off a winner.
Benton and Maryville? You should all be proud of your coaches, your kids, and your schools.

“I could have calibrated those words…”
July 24th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in » In the News...
So… Yesterday, President Obama accused the Cambridge Police Department of “acting stupidly” in the arrest of Henry Gates (a local matter that hardly seems to deserve the attention of the White House), ratcheting up the controversy on this sensitive racial matter even further.
Today, in response, he states, “I could have calibrated those words differently.”
So he regrets the words, not the message? What’s so wrong with a simple apology? Something along the lines of:
“Sergeant Crowley… I’m sorry that my words have hurt you.”
“I regret that my words have contributed to the escalation of tension in this matter.”
“I apologize for the furor my words have created and any hurt they have caused.”
I’m sorry, but I just don’t get what’s so complicated about this as to necessitate spin.
