Water Fun!

July 9th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in » My Life / Family, Pictures

Today, we had a blast… some serious fun at the lake with the kiddos and my folks. Unfortunately, Jenna was sick today, so she had to miss out (Nancy too, since she stayed with her at the house to take care of her), but Jeffrey and Allison LOVED swimming in the lake and tubing!

This series of photos about sums up the day…

Yep. A bit of apprehension from both of them at first. Then a TON of fun. And exhaustion.

Definitely a great day.

All of Mom’s “Kids”…

Mother’s Day was last Sunday… the kids and I did our best to make it special for Nancy. We pulled out almost all the stops… breakfast in bed… cards… gifts… everything a mom could want except some peace and quiet. That’s a rare and precious commodity as you know.

Anyway, while I’m reasonably certain she enjoyed everything we did for her, I’m much more certain it’s moments like this one that made her day great:

Yep, a rare family photo of all of the kids she loves so much… even the one with four legs. :)

Horrible Blogger… That’s Me.

Wow. It’s been over two months since I’ve posted anything here. Guess that makes me a pretty horrible blogger, huh?

I’ve got excuses, of course. Life has been eventful!

It started with Valentine’s Day. Ever the romantic, I spent the entire day with Nancy. Granted, it’s because she decided she REALLY wanted to spend some quality time with me… so much so that she slipped on an icy sidewalk and broke her right ankle to make sure I was home. We spent the next couple of days together getting treatment… and I spent the next several weeks realizing just how lost I would be without her. I am DEFINITELY not cut out to be a single parent!

Once Nancy got a bit more mobile as her ankle healed up, we had another big change in our lives… the addition of a new family member! Granted, this one has four legs… but I’m learning the puppies are almost as much work as kiddos. Jeffrey LOVES his new buddy Beasley. The girls… well… they both do too, but it’s clear that there’s not nearly the connection there right now that Jeffrey has with our puppy.

So that’s the main things happening in the Stickley household right now. Hopefully I’ll have more time for writing again soon!

Winter Fun…

February 5th, 2011 | Comments Off | Posted in » My Life / Family, Pictures

One of the best things about being a parent is sharing some of the fun things I did when I was younger with my kids. And winter is chock full off opportunities… sledding, building things in the snow, snow ball fights… so many great things to do with the kids.

Jeffrey and I took full advantage of today for this kind of stuff. We’d been working on a snow fort (maybe we’ll finish that tomorrow), but the snow just wasn’t quite right for that today, so we shifted gears and made use of the ginormous pile of snow I’d scooped to one side of the drive, digging a pretty decent sized snow cave. Here’s the end result:

Memories were definitely made today.

Happy Birthday, Jenna!

My little girl…

…isn’t quite so little anymore!

Happy birthday, sweetie.

Off-Roadin’ Kid…

November 22nd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in » My Life / Family, Pictures

If you know my son at all, it’s pretty clear to you that there’s one real love in his life right now… basically anything with four wheels. Pretty high on that list is riding his ATV… off-roading, not necessarily racing (thankfully!).

Sadly, there’s just not much opportunity on a day-to-day basis for Jeffrey to ride. Living in town does that. While I’d love to turn him lose to tear through the neighbors’ yards on his ATV (I certainly wouldn’t want him to tear up mine, now, would I?), that probably wouldn’t do much for neighborly relations. Thankfully, though, my folks do have quite a bit of space for him to ride, and we visit pretty frequently, so we’ve recently left the ATV there for him to ride when we visit. Aside from just being at Grandma and Grandpa’s, this always adds an extra measure of smile to his face when we visit… after all, it’s not just Grandma and Grandpa time, it’s ATV time.

It’s great to be able to enable him do what he loves.

This weekend was even better though. My dad found a great deal on a used ATV this week, and bought it for “the family”. Obviously, that raised the joy level for Jeffrey even further… now Grandpa and Dad were able to ride with him and share in what he loves. It was an awesome time… we drove around the property for hours, even made a couple trails through the brush around the pond (allowing Jeffrey to more truly do some off-roading). His smiles were uncontainable and contagious. I’m still grinning about it as I write this.

I’m telling you, dads… there’s nothing better than getting into your kid’s world and doing what he loves. If you don’t do something with your kids regularly, straighten up your act and figure out how to get into their world. You’ve got limited time with them, so make the most of it.

So here’s a few photos of Jeffrey and I doing just that… making the most of time together, doing what he loves. If these aren’t encouragement for you to get off your butt and get into your kids’ worlds… I don’t know what would be.

Another summer has passed. Already.

Yes, that means school is here again, and we now have a big second grader and a kindergartener!

And new photos! Enjoy…
