New Look for the Blog

As you’ve no doubt noticed, I decided to take the time to change my blog template (peer pressure finally got to me!).
Hope you like the new look! Let me know if you’ve got suggestions or if you find something that just doesn’t look right. It often takes a bit of time to work all the bugs out!
Verse-O-Matic Update, or… Name that Blog Section!

I had initially named the section containing the “verse-o-matic” plugin “Random Bible Verse”. After further thought (and after a suggestion from one of the readers of this blog), that title sounds a bit like I’m treating Scripture passages a bit non-chalantly. So… since I’m running a bit low on creativity, we’re having a contest to name that section of the blog. The winner will get… um… well… something. Can’t do Starbucks gift certificates… that’s been done (Dorcas Hawker). I’d do an autographed copy of my book… but that wouldn’t be very original either (not to mention the fact that I haven’t written a book!). So… how about this… let’s extend the contest a bit further, we’ll allow readers the opportunity to name the prize too ($10 or less, please… I’m not made of money!).
So… two questions:
1. What should I name the “Verse-O-Matic” section of the blog?
2. What should the prize(s) for this contest be? ($10 or less).
All entries must be submitted by midnight on July 4th! Winners will be announced the following day.

I just finished adding the “verse-o-matic” plugin to the site. It displays randomly selected Scripture verses from a list I’ve provided, changing the displayed verse each time a new page is loaded on the site.
I’ve added about 25 verses I like… how about sharing some of your favorites? I’ll add them to the list too.
Live Comment Previewing!

I’ve added a new plugin to the site which allows for live comment previewing. I’ve also modified the width of the text area for commenting to eliminate that irritating stylesheet error that caused part of your comment text to scroll off the right side of the screen. Hopefully these features will make the commenting more user-friendly.
Let me know if you like the new features! I’m always open to feedback, especially ideas that will help improve the look and feel of the site!
Updated Blog Software

FYI… I updated my blog software tonight due to increasing spam problems (the newest version of Wordpress has some GREAT spam management tools!). If you notice ANY problems with the site, PLEASE let me know either by commenting on this thread or by e-mailing me (link at the bottom of the left sidebar).
Note that as a result of this upgrade, I’m disabling the CaptCha plugin, which is good news for those of you who can’t stand having to type in the characters from those cryptic images when commenting! Of course, I’ll be re-enabling it should the new spam controls in Wordpress be inadequate, but we’ll give this a shot for a while.

I’m sure by now you noticed that rather goofy looking picture to the left. Yep… that’s me.
Not sure why I was ever really hesitant to post anything personal here… after all… this site is a reflection of who I am, so why not show the world who I am too?
Anyway, that’s my ugly mug… hope it doesn’t scare you away for good. As an enticement to come back, you can look forward to some pictures of my beautiful wife and cute kids later. Surely they’ll counterbalance my pic… 
Fun While it Lasted….

Well… polling was fun while it lasted. There is apparently some sort of intermittent bug in the polling plugin, the source of which I am not smart enough to find. As such, I’ve disabled it for now. Hopefully, I’ll either figure out what’s wrong or replace it with a different polling plugin. But… for now, no more polls.
Oh well…

Weekly Poll…

I thought it would be interesting to do some totally non-scientific polling here on the site, so I found a plugin that provides that functionality (courtesy of Andrew Sutherland).
As with the site activity plugin, this may cause some site problems. Let me know if things don’t look right (comment here or e-mail me from the link in the left sidebar).
I’ll try to have the polls start each Saturday, and end on Friday (no promises though), and I will post results afterwards in blog entries.
