Updated Blog Software

FYI… I updated my blog software tonight due to increasing spam problems (the newest version of WordPress has some GREAT spam management tools!). If you notice ANY problems with the site, PLEASE let me know either by commenting on this thread or by e-mailing me (link at the bottom of the left sidebar).
Note that as a result of this upgrade, I’m disabling the CaptCha plugin, which is good news for those of you who can’t stand having to type in the characters from those cryptic images when commenting! Of course, I’ll be re-enabling it should the new spam controls in WordPress be inadequate, but we’ll give this a shot for a while.

I’m sure by now you noticed that rather goofy looking picture to the left. Yep… that’s me.
Not sure why I was ever really hesitant to post anything personal here… after all… this site is a reflection of who I am, so why not show the world who I am too?
Anyway, that’s my ugly mug… hope it doesn’t scare you away for good. As an enticement to come back, you can look forward to some pictures of my beautiful wife and cute kids later. Surely they’ll counterbalance my pic… 
Fun While it Lasted….

Well… polling was fun while it lasted. There is apparently some sort of intermittent bug in the polling plugin, the source of which I am not smart enough to find. As such, I’ve disabled it for now. Hopefully, I’ll either figure out what’s wrong or replace it with a different polling plugin. But… for now, no more polls.

Weekly Poll…

I thought it would be interesting to do some totally non-scientific polling here on the site, so I found a plugin that provides that functionality (courtesy of Andrew Sutherland).
As with the site activity plugin, this may cause some site problems. Let me know if things don’t look right (comment here or e-mail me from the link in the left sidebar).
I’ll try to have the polls start each Saturday, and end on Friday (no promises though), and I will post results afterwards in blog entries.

Note: I added a “site activity” plugin to the blog last night. You should see this above the calendar in the left sidebar. It lists the last six posts commented upon, total comments on each post, and who commented (with links to all of the above). Commenter names are shaded differently according to how old the comment is (brighter is newer). The comment plugin is publicly available for WordPress blogs, and comes courtesy of Brien Meidell.
If things don’t look right as you’re viewing the blog, please let me know (comment here or e-mail me from the link in the left sidebar)! It looks right on my PC, but I’m not an expert in stylesheets by any means, so I may have messed something up that makes the layout look odd on other systems.
