Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus…

September 5th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in » Song of the Day

A simple hymn… a powerful message.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
and life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

How Can I Keep from Singing?

March 20th, 2007 | Comments Off | Posted in » Song of the Day

Isn’t it awesome how God meets our needs? I needed a little lift today, and God provided it… even before I’d thought to ask.

It came in the form of a Chris Tomlin song, “How Can I Keep from Singing?” (it’s track one on the album See the Morning). Here’s the lyrics…

“How Can I Keep From Singing”

There is an endless song
Echoes in my soul
I hear the music ring

And though the storms may come
I am holding on
To the rock I cling

How can I keep from singing Your praise
How can I ever say enough
How amazing is Your love
How can I keep from shouting Your name
I know I am loved by the King
And it makes my heart want to sing

I will lift my eyes
In the darkest night
For I know my Savior lives

And I will walk with You
Knowing You’ll see me through
And sing the songs You give

I can sing in the troubled times
Sing when I win
I can sing when I lose my step
And fall down again
I can sing ’cause You pick me up
Sing ’cause You’re there
I can sing ’cause You hear me, Lord
When I call to You in prayer
I can sing with my last breath
Sing for I know
That I’ll sing with the angels
And the saints around the throne

Life’s troubles are, as Paul writes, light and momentary… at least when seen in the light of God’s love for us.

Favorite Christmas Song / Album?

December 8th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in » Just For Fun..., My Life / Family, Song of the Day

Here’s a lighter topic for a change… what Christmas song (or album) are you enjoying most this year?

Me? It’s no contest this year… Third Day, Christmas Offerings picks up the win in a laugher.

My favorite song from that album? It’s gotta be, “Jesus, Light of the World”. Check out these lyrics, then the sample you can find on their website, and tell me this isn’t one of the best original Christmas songs out there…

The most beautiful night of the year,
All the stars light up the sky.
And the city is sparkling with silver and gold
from a million points of light.
A reflection of something that’s deeper within,
just a flicker of something more.

Jesus, light of the world,
Shine through the darkness bright as the day.
Jesus, light of the world,
Shine in our hearts, show us the way, tonight!

Who is this child in the manger?
Kings bow down, and angels sing.
The Lord of the universe has come here to save us,
A precious offering.
All the heavens above and the earth below,
Are filled with the light of your love.

Jesus, light of the world,
Shine through the darkness bright as the day.
Jesus, light of the world,
Shine in our hearts, show us the way, tonight!

I’m telling you, I haven’t heard a song this powerful in a long time. Great stuff… check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

More than Enough?

November 7th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in » My Life / Family, Song of the Day

I haven’t posted a “Song of the Day” in quite a while, but tonight, I’ve got one. God caught my attention with the lyrics from a song I’ve heard a hundred times or more… “Enough”, by Chris Tomlin (I heard this song on the radio, as performed by Barlow Girl).

Here’s the lyrics:

All of you is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in you is more than enough

You are my supply
My breath of life
Still more awesome than I know
You are my reward
Worth living for
Still more awesome than I know

And all of you is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in you is more than enough

You are my supply
My breath of life
Still more awesome than I know
You’re my coming King
You’re my everything
Still more awesome than I know

And all of you is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in you is more than enough

More than all I am
More than all I need
You are more than enough for me
More than all I know
More than all I can say
You are more than enough

And all of you is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in You is more than enough

Is Jesus your coming King… your everything? Is He more than enough for you?

When the storms of life rage… when the world seems upside down… hope remains. God is still in control… Jesus still saves… and heaven still awaits those who seek Him.

Jesus IS more than enough.

Speechless

July 25th, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in » Song of the Day

God touched my heart through music again this morning. As such, it wasn’t hard to pick my song of the day.

So… here’s the lyrics to “Speechless”, by Steven Curtis Chapman. An audio preview can be found here (it’s track 2).

My words fall like drops of rain.
My lips are like clouds.
I’ve said so many things, trying to figure you out.
But as mercy opens my eyes, and my words are stolen away
With this breathtaking view of your grace…

I am Speechless
I’m astonished and amazed
I am silenced by your wondrous grace.
You have saved me.
You have raised me from the grave.
And I am Speechless
In your presence now.
I’m astounded as I consider how
You have shown us the love that leaves us speechless.

So what kind of love could this be
That would trade heaven’s throne for a cross?
And to think you still celebrate
over finding just one who was lost.
And to know you rejoice over us
The God of this whole universe.
It’s a story that’s too great for words…

We are speechless.

Oh how great is the love
The Father has lavished upon us
That we should be called the sons and daughters of God?

We are speechless.

You have saved us from the grave.

We are speechless.

Before the Throne of God Above

June 21st, 2006 | Comments Off | Posted in » Song of the Day

I’ve got a thirty minute drive each day back and forth to work, so I’ve got a lot of time in the car to myself. Yesterday, I popped in a CD from Sonicflood that I hadn’t listened to in a while… “Sonicpraise”. I’d almost forgotten how much I love their rendition of “Before the Throne of God Above”.

So… that’s my song of the day.

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong and perfect plea.
A great high Priest whose Name is Love
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands,
My name is written on His heart.
I know that while in Heaven He stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look and see Him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died
My sinful soul is counted free.
For God the just is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there the risen Lamb,
My perfect spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
King of glory and of grace,
One in Himself I cannot die.
My soul is purchased by His blood,
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ my Savior and my God!

Talk about some awesome lyrical content… sound theological truths about our relationship with God… straight to the point and elegantly written. And Sonicflood’s rendition? Blows me away every time I listen.

Anyway, check it out when you get a chance. It’s track 10 on the CD, and you can listen to a preview here.

Undignified

February 22nd, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in » Song of the Day

Just purchased a new CD this weekend… a Matt Redman worship CD, featuring Blessed be the Name and others. I have to say, I’m really enjoying “Undignified”…

Here’s some of the lyrics:

I will dance, I will sing, to be mad for my King
Nothing Lord is hindering the passion in my soul.
I will dance, I will sing, to be mad for my King
Nothing Lord is hindering the passion in my soul.

and I’ll become even more undignified than this
(some would say its foolishness)
but I’ll become even more undignified than this
gonna leave my pride by the side

and I’ll become even more undignified than this.

What a message (not to mention the GREAT music)!

Think about it… when you worship our Lord… what are you worried about? How lifting your hands might be seen by others? How falling on your knees might make you look? How dancing might bring the scorn of some of our more traditional Christian friends? That you might, as Matt’s song says, look undignified?

I’d like to think that all of us would say no… that we never worry about what others think when offering our worship. The sad fact is that all of us do from time to time (if not ALL the time). But it begs the question… if you hold back because of what others might think, are you giving God everything He deserves from your worship? Are YOU missing out on the joy of pure worship as a result?

Things to think about.
